The Desert Health Care District Scholarship

The Desert Healthcare District Healthcare Professionals Scholarship Program, in conjunction with Pathways to Success, provides scholarship assistance and student support to Coachella Valley students with demonstrated need who are pursuing a healthcare related college or university education at an accredited academic institution in the United States.  Scholarship awards can be used for tuition, books, educational fees, living expenses, or other education related expenses. 

  • Students must live in the Desert Healthcare District to be considered for the Desert Healthcare District Healthcare Professionals Scholarship.

The application must be submitted no later than May 4.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.  Recipients of scholarships will be notified by phone, e-mail, or standard mail.  Submit completed application.  For further information or assistance call 1-760-346-0265 or e-mail at studentsupport@cvep.com.

Scholarships will be awarded for two (2) years in the following amounts (based on demonstrated financial need):

  • Up to $2,500 per year to community college students.
  • Up to $5,000 per year to undergraduates attending accredited colleges and universities.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the Desert Health Care District Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Student must be a resident of the Desert Healthcare District (See boundaries here).
  • You or your parents must have been permanent residents of the Coachella Valley over the past 3 years.
  • You must have attended a California high school for a minimum of 3 years and graduated or completed a GED in the state of California.
  • You must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 2 priority deadline. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • You must demonstrate financial need (as identified by academic institutions & FAFSA).
  • You must be pursuing your first bachelor or associates degree in a healthcare related major at an accredited college, university, or academic institution in the U.S.
  • You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and maintain full-time enrollment throughout the academic year (as defined by academic institutions).
  • You will be expected to sign a contract with sign Pathways to Success involving you in scheduled events, mentoring, workshops, and web based interactions.
  • Preference will be given to students completing career academy programs in healthcare in the Desert Healthcare District high schools or healthcare majors at COD and CSUSB Palm Desert.
  • You will be given preference if you have had previous involvement in college preparation program(s), demonstrate community leadership, have been involved in a career pathway program(s), and are first generation or first in family to attend college.
  • You must submit two letters of recommendation from a Professor, Instructor, Counselor, or Community Leader.
  • You must submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts.
  • You must submit a copy of 2012-2013 Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA.
